Song, Story & a Visit to relive Christmas in the 1840's in Beaverton, Ontario
The Way Back machine
As the education officer of the Beaverton, Thorah, Eldon Historical Society it is my job to bring our past alive in young minds. We do this through 3 half day sessions. First we explore what Christmas would have been like in the 1840's with Grade 3's in the 3 schools in Thorah Township with a class visit. Fiction & non-fiction books give background information and then students make a cedar bough garland. Before Christmas classes each visit our museum to put up the garlands. They experience an actual log cabin cold and dark as it is and make pomanders to take to class. After christmas comes anothe class visit where we compare past & present gifts. They see actual artifacts, play with pioneer toys we have made and then make a thaumatrope. It is fascinating to see how much they enjoy the simpler toys.

Visiting the Serrekunda Model school in the Gambia
Africa Adventure
An amazing time in The Gambia, west Africa. Teachers and students were amazing in light of the lack of everything the school experiences. The Headmistress somehow managed to wrestle me up a guitar (sorry, Walter) which took forever to tune. I came out to all the students sitting in chairs on a very dusty playground. Waded right into the middle and began to rock. they really liked The Cat Came Back and joined in clapping and singing the Boom Buppa part. When our daughter, Elicia, visited in February they all wanted to know where boombuppa was. It took her a bit to realize that was their new name for me! An amzing, life-changing experience!

Gambia, Here We Come
Walter Goes International
Walter & I (along with Mrs. Gardner) are travelling to England during December to share Xmas with our daughter, Elicia. We may perform at her school in Stoke on Trent. But, tadaa, we are giving a command performance at 2 primary schools in Gambia the week of Dec 11th to 15th. The schools are part of a support program that Elicia is involved with. We hope to learn as much as we perform. Walter says he hopes these kids can teach me to dance. Thanks, Walter!?!?
